Setting off to the airport in a matter of hours, my bank holiday weekend has been filled with characteristically-Jane last minute panics. Yet between hunting for my passport, stocking up on factor 50 and assembling my head torch (don’t ask), I found time to join crowds of fitness fanatics and bloggers at Be:Fit London.
For three days, the Business Design Centre in Islington was home to Olympians, health experts and nutritionists, giving women the tools to achieve their fitness goals. Anyone in need of motivation to work harder, push further and eat cleaner would have found it here.
With sixteen taster sessions across the weekend, hosted by instructors from London’s hottest classes, I arrive just in time to join ‘Elimin8or’ with the team from Equinox. The Kensington based club specialises in HIIT training, body conditioning and featuring on the instagram feeds of Made in Chelsea stars. The clue being in the title, Elimin8or was an extreme full body training session, where the easiest exercise was ‘eliminated’ each round. Doing tuck jumps, squats and one-handed burpees in a room of a hundred other women sounds chaotic, but was by far my most empowering gym session yet.
After a ten-minute break, I then tried ‘Gorgeous Glutes’ with the lovely Carly Newson, celebrity personal trainer and ex professional dancer. Lunging, squatting and pulsing, I soon forgot to care that I was only wearing a sports bra (moral of the story – never just wear a jumper to a fitness event) and pushed through the pain of the never-ending reps.
The rest of the afternoon was spent wandering around the stalls, chatting to nutritionists, sampling shakes and entering a protein bar haze. After a free sports massage I made my way home, laden with product samples and vowing to never eat pick and mix as a post-workout snack again.
